What happens on the skin that is prone to acne

The skin has extremely small pores. It’s through these pores the skin breaths and sweat comes out. And certain chemicals can enter your body through these holes too. The skin has special holes for hair to grow in; these holes are called hair follicles.

Skins that have larger pores, and overactive oil gland secretions, are prone to acne breakouts. Acne occurs due to extra oil secretions, dead skin cells, dirt, and bacteria, which get blocked up in these pores and develop into tiny pimples (called zits). If this occurs on large areas of your skin, then you have an acne issue.

In puberty, there are more possibilities of acne problems because your body tends to go through hormonal changes – resulting in more oils getting produced by the body.

What happens if your skin is acne prone

You get pimples called zits/spots. These pimples can be either white or black. Later on, they develop into whiteheads or blackheads, called comedones. The whiteheads are large pimples or very small boils full of pus or blood, while the blackheads are formed due to the accumulation of oil and congealed dirt.

There are other conditions of acne too. You get nodules that are solid lumps under the skin. They are difficult to burst forcefully. You get cysts that are large lumps with pus deep under the skin and are painful.

Where on the body does it show

Usually, acne outbreaks happen on the facial areas, the body, on the neck, the shoulders, and the limbs. These areas have more oil glands. The oil is called sebum, and the glands are called sebaceous glands

Large pimples that are forcefully broken, leave permanent scars and craters in the skin.

Many of these small or large pimples or boils can be very painful for an individual. Only by bursting them, does the pain go away.

How to control it

People with acne problems must try to control their diets, and avoid certain creams and lotions. Constant use of certain washes and cleaning of the skin is a must. If your skin is prone to acne, you must take baths, and wash your face with soap, regularly.

Try to avoid an environment, where there is are a lot of free radicals in the air; such as smoke.

Avoid using oil-based make-up.

It’s advised not to wear clothes that will make you sweat more, or clothes that restrict blood circulation, to other areas other than the skin.
